YOUR PORTFOLIO SUCKS

I get sent portfolios all the time, for movie work and comic work and it is hard being told your work is not good enough or doesnt fit the style we need but you have to hear it. Most portfolios suck! The problem is we have a generation of people growing up using social media, posting every piece of work they ever do on social media and getting high praise for EVERYTHING. An artist posts a piece of work, an AI experiment for example. Love it, amazing, fantastic!!! If you tell the truth ie it looks like mush, no design form, no imagination then give positive , constructive help , state your reasonings you are slammed for being negative so you dont bother again. You just like and move on. If you want to work in the industy you need real feedback not social media feedback!.

That is why your portfolio sucks and that is why its so hard to get through to new artists when they seem to have no quality control, no voice inside tellling them have to aim higher or refine, rework. They rely on social media for that voice.

Turn it off. Study art. Learn from the masters of art history modern and contemporary. Set a bar and aim for it. Then show me your portfolio.
